Duet 3 Expansion 1 HCL
Description
Duet 3 Expansion 1HCL is a CAN-FD-connected expansion board designed to provide a high-current stepper motor driver combined with multiple interfaces for position feedback.
It features a range of peripheral inputs and outputs for functions such as motor temperature sensing, brake control, and axis endstop detection. It connects to the Duet 3 CAN-FD bus (such as the Duet 3 Mainboard 6HC, Duet 3 expansion boards, and the Tool Distribution Board) via RJ11 connectors. Multiple 1HCL boards can be daisy-chained, with local power (up to 48 V) supplied. This allows very large machines to be built without significant wiring complexity or signal integrity issues.

Advantages
- Processor: ARM Cortex-M4F microcontroller running at 120 MHz
- Stepper Drivers: TMC2160A stepper driver, SPI-controlled, can operate in open-loop or closed-loop mode. Maximum motor current 6.3 A peak per phase (4.45 A RMS).
- Connectivity: RJ11 CAN In and CAN Out connectors to interface with the Duet 3 CAN-FD bus
- TBC: Two medium-current outputs (2.5 A max recommended) at VIN or VBRAKE voltage with PWM capability and built-in flyback diodes: out0, out1
- General IO: Two 3.3 V-level PWM-capable outputs (max 3 mA) through 470Ω series resistors: io0.out, io1.out
Two digital inputs with permanent 27K pull-up resistors and overvoltage protection: io0.in, io1.in - Temperature Input: One thermistor/PT1000 input: temp0
Designed for motor temperature monitoring (potentially paired with a cooling system controlled by one of the outputs). - Power Input: VIN: 12 V–48 V nominal (the absolute maximum VIN rating is slightly higher to account for voltage spikes occurring when the stepper motor is switched off)
- Firmware: RepRapFirmware 3.4 and later
